Services

A/C
Air Conditioning Service includes a check of a/c system pressures, temperature output, compressor operation, and visual inspection of system components. If necessary Bill’s Half Price Auto Repair can locate and repair leaks, recharge refrigerant (Freon), or replace any part of system to restore your a/c performance to normal.

Alternators & Starters
If your vehicle is hard to start or dies while running and won’t restart, you may have a problem with your charging/starting system. We can test alternators, batteries, and starters and make necessary repairs.

Batteries
If your vehicle is hard to start or dies while running and won’t restart, you may have a problem with your charging/starting system. We can test alternators, batteries, and starters and make necessary repairs.

Belts & Hoses
If belts and hoses are neglected they can leave you stranded. We can inspect belts and hoses while your car is in for service and replace if required.

Clutches
Bill’s Half Price Auto Repair professional and technical staff can diagnose and repair clutches.

Coolant/Radiator Service
Service your cooling system every 2 years or 30,000 miles. Some cars have “Extended Life” coolant/antifreeze with longer service intervals; however these intervals are based on ideal conditions and not hot Texas summers.

CV/Drive Axles
The drive axle transfers power from the transmission to the wheels on a front wheel drive car. The CV joint is where the axle connects to the wheel. If you hear a clicking or clunking sound while turning, bring in your car to have it checked. If a CV joint breaks while driving, the wheel can separate from the car and cause you to lose control.

Diagnostics
Bill’s Half Price Auto Repair can diagnose the “Check Engine” or “Service Engine Soon” light. We have the latest computer scanner. We can also diagnose electrical, drivability, suspension, or most other problems.

Fuel Injection Service
The reformulated gasoline sold in the Metroplex causes carbon buildup in fuel injectors, intake manifold, and combustion chambers. Fuel Injection cleaning should be done every 2 years or 30,000 miles to reduce carbon buildup, lower emissions, improve performance, and increase gas mileage.

Fuel Pumps
The fuel pump transfers gas from the tank to the engine. If it fails your car may start but die when you press on gas pedal, or it may not start at all. We can test fuel pressure to determine if you need to replace fuel pump.

Oil Change/Lube
Bill’s Half Price Auto Repair uses quality API (American Petroleum Institute) certified 5w30 motor oil and Wix Pro-Tec oil filters. We also stock different brands and weights of oil including synthethics.

Shocks/Struts
If your vehicle has a soft/bouncy or rough ride, or uneven tire wear, it’s time to inspect your shocks/struts.

Suspension
Faulty ball joints, tie rods, and control arms can cause vibrations, noises, uneven tire wear or alignment problems. We inspect suspension parts when your car is in for service. If you experience any of these problems, bring your car in for a check out.

Timing Belts
The timing belt connects the crankshaft to the camshaft. This is a technical way of saying “It makes the engine run”. The timing belt is one of the most important parts of the engine and also one of the most neglected because it can be expensive to replace. If the timing belt breaks while driving it can cause severe engine damage costing $1000.00 to $3000.00 or more to repair. Your owner’s manual will tell you when to replace it, usually 60,000 to 90,000 miles. Bill’s Half Price Auto Repair can replace timing belts for far less than the dealer.

Tune-Up
This is an outdated and generic term. Your owner’s manual lists what maintenance items need to be done and when to do them. Do not ignore the maintenance schedule! If you don’t have a manual, we have it on our computer. If you have a “Check Engine” or Service Engine” light, or a specific drivability concern (like rough idle, hesitation, loss of power, noise or vibration) we will address that specific problem. A “tune-up” that you see advertised for $79.95 will not fix these problems in most cases.

Transmission Service
We remove transmission pan and replace filter, however this method only replaces about 50% of the fluid. Most new car dealers now recommend the flush method. Most cars need transmission service every 30,000 to 50,000 miles. (See owner’s manual or ask us) If your transmission is slipping, not shifting, or has other problems it may be too late to service. Be prepared to spend $750.00 to $2500.00 for transmission rebuild. It is always cheaper to maintain rather than to repair.

Water Pump
The water pump forces coolant through the engine to the radiator and back to keep the engine cool. If you notice coolant leaks under the car bring it to have it checked.

30K/60K/90K Maintenance
Your owner’s manual lists what maintenance items need to be done and when to do them. Do not ignore the maintenance schedule! Your car will run better, last longer, and have fewer breakdowns/repairs if you follow the schedule. If you don’t have a manual, we have it on our computer. Each car has a different schedule, so be wary of advertised one price fits all prices.
